At Senator, design is never just about form and function - it’s about responsibility. The role of today’s designer extends far beyond aesthetics, demanding innovation in materials, manufacturing, and the afterlife of products. For Pearson Lloyd, creativity must also carry accountability: minimising impact, enabling renewal, and shaping a smarter, more sustainable future.
For Pearson Lloyd, sustainability is no longer enough. With the planet already under strain, their focus is on repair - designing products and systems that don’t just limit damage but actively contribute to renewal. This mindset shaped the creation of Contour, a chair designed with responsibility engineered into every detail. Its back shell is moulded from 100% recycled polypropylene, paired with a low component count and locally sourced materials to reduce its carbon footprint. Combined with removable upholstery in Gabriel Renewed Loop fabric, Contour embodies a circular approach - one where products are designed for longevity, reuse, and minimal impact.
In a world still driven by fast consumption, from fashion to furniture, designers carry the responsibility to shift the pace. Technology and brands may accelerate demand, but it’s design and engineering that can extend product lifecycles and create lasting value. For Pearson Lloyd, every decision matters: from the materials selected to how a product is assembled, used, and eventually reimagined. Contour is a clear example of that thinking - proving that sustainability isn’t an afterthought but built into the DNA of design.
